At 10:28 on the morning of March 29, 2011, the Pinole Fire department and the Rodeo Hercules Fire District as well as Battalion 7 fire cooperators responded to a vehicle accident involving a Big Rig with a fire. The first arriving units found a pickup truck and trailer severely damaged as well as a Big Rig on fire. The Big Rig trailer tires were burning (8) as well as the rear tires of the tractor were also burning(4). The fire was extending to the trailer and its contents. One (1) diesel fuel tank ruptured on the Big Rig Spilling 40-50 gallons of diesel on the roadway. Firefighters from the Pinole Fire Department quickly knocked down the flames on the Big Rig but the interior of the trailer continued to smolder due to its contents. Firefighters from the Rodeo Hercules Fire District responded and focused their attention on the pickup truck, trailer and driver. They rendered medical attention to the driver who sustained minor injuries. The driver was transported to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo for observation. The driver of the Big Rig was uninjured. Crockett Carquinez Fire Department responded with a water tender to provide additional water to the Pinole units.

The rear tires on the Big Rig trailer as well as on the tractor had to be replaced on scene before they could move the trailer. Once that was completed the trailer was taken to a nearby Park n Ride where a Caltrans back hoe and private bobcat were used to remove the contents of the trailer so that final extinguishment of the fire could take place.
